This past April, Red Toque Creative Team Members Yolanda Holderness and Emma Wassmer attended the 10th Annual Social Media Camp as representatives for The Vancouver Island Economic Alliance.

What is Social Media Camp?

So, what’s Social Media Camp? The event is recognized as the largest social media conference in Canada, attracting delegates from across Canada and the United States. While covering social media marketing topics – communications, sales, crowdsourcing, e-learning, digital marketing, content marketing, e-mail marketing, inbound marketing, and more – Social Media Camp also looks at the cultural impacts of social media.

Why we attended?

We were given the opportunity to attend Social Media Camp as representatives for The Vancouver Island Economic Alliance (VIEA), something we have done for several years. Prior to the event, we took time to schedule a meeting to discuss our guidelines and goals. As we were attending as representatives, we had set a number of goals to accomplish for VIEA such as recruiting new members, promoting VIEA’s initiatives (Island Good, FTZ-VI, etc.), and promoting the upcoming State of the Island Economic Summit. Along with these goals, we also took time to set some general networking goals for Red Toque Creative.

Overall Experience

Social Media Camp was a great experience. The event provided a fantastic way to network with both companies and freelancers from across North America and was a great way to learn more about social media platforms, the politics behind them, as well as safety when using and general algorithm changes. All speakers and presenters were very knowledgeable in their fields and there was a great amount of take away from the event, from new connections to extensive knowledge on new media trends.

We would recommend the event to anyone interested in learning more about social media or anyone looking to start working in the field!
